  • A BIRD DOG rescue organization

Most of you have probably heard of dog rescue organizations before. Most are run by AKC breed clubs, or sometimes by independent groups or by local humane societies. But, the Illinois Bird Dog Rescue, Inc. is one of the few organizations specifically devoted to the rescue of American Field bred pointers and setters. For those of you who aren't necessarily looking for a big running bird dog that does everything perfect, but perhaps are looking for a nice "field-bred" companion, a buddy to hang out with and ride in the pick-up truck to the store, or maybe go out for a local hunt... the Illinois Bird Dog Rescue might be able to hook you up with a nice bird dog for a pretty reasonable deal. And, in the course of doing so, you might be saving a bird dog from the dog pound. There are some gorgeous hunting dogs there of all breeds. Check it out--

    Thanks for the heads up.

Does anyone know if there are other organizations around the country like this?

That's the kind of heads-up I look for on a site like this...it should be permanently front and center some place and not lost in the mix.
Perhaps a "sticky" (God I hate that word) at the head of the Bird Dogs forum.

Think it would be appropriate to put in the Lost and Found forum? Could sticky it there and add to the thread any other organizations as they come up...

                  Yep.
Shoot where they're going, not where they've been.

I did not know such an organization existed. Looks like a good place to make donations instead of those rescure groups that are not always hunter friendly. Plese make it a sticky.

Here's another one that operates out of the Toledo, OH area. My wife and I have met the people who run this one a couple times times and they're a good organization. They don't have their own website. They list through the Pet Finder site. The link below is for their page.

Thats a great idea. I was thinking along the same lines during the day (when I shoulda been thinkin work stuff).

How about modifying the Lost n Found to "Lost, Found and Rescue" ?? Then we can work on an "underground railroad" type of assistance program.

"Rescue" can work both ways. When someone can't take care of an animal anymore, (health, eviction, divorce, job loss, etc ...) they can post on that same board.

Not to bad mouth them at all, but...

I tried to deal with this organization one time and never got any response. They had an old setter named Mo (fourteen years old) and I wanted to adopt him. E-mailed them twice...but nothing. I know they are handling a lot of dogs and all. Has anyone ever had a correspondence with them or any luck adopting a dog?

                              Brian.
